Short version: you don't make an account. The photo or words you check are used only to check them. We never save them, never log them, and never use them to train AI.
What happens when you tap “Check it”
- Your photo or text goes over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to our checker at scamdetect.app.
- Before it leaves your phone, the photo is shrunk, and its hidden details (like where it was taken) are removed.
- Our checker passes it to an AI model (Google Gemini, reached through OpenRouter). We ask for zero data retention: the AI provider must not keep it or train on it.
- The answer comes back to your phone. Our server keeps nothing: no photo, no text, no answer.
What we do keep
- A random device number made by the app the first time it opens. It isn't your phone number and doesn't identify you. We use it, together with your internet address (IP), only to stop too many checks in a short time. Those counts are held in memory and cleared within a day.
- Basic server records that a check happened, whether it was red, yellow or green, and whether it was a photo. Never what was in it.
- Our host (Vercel) keeps standard security logs, like internet address and time, for a short time.
What stays on your phone
Your family helper's name and number, your daily check count and the device number stay on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them.
Subscriptions
Apple handles payment for Scam Detector Pro. We never see your card. We use RevenueCat to know whether Pro is active. It uses an anonymous id, not your name or email.
What we never do
- No accounts, no ads, no tracking, no selling or sharing of data.
- We don't read your contacts, messages or location.
Children
Scam Detector is made for adults and isn't directed at children under 13.
